The piano is in no way a simple musical instrument, and has existed for nearly 300 years during which time it has appeared in many wild and fanciful guises. It has a life and a history as varied as the eras through which it has lived, and as we shall see here the piano continues to mutate and develop in parallel with evolving technological, artistic, and aesthetic demands.
